The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET ) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) gives the candidate eligibility for the role of Teacher for Classes I – VIII at Central Government Schools (also Union Territory Schools), and is considered by Private Schools as well as State Government aided Schools. The CTET helps maintain good standards of education at the Primary and Elementary School levels. Consisting of two Papers, Paper 1 qualifies you for teaching Classes I - V (Primary Stage) and Paper 2 qualifies you to teach Classes VI – VIII (Elementary Stage). Completing Both Papers is also an option, qualifying you to teach Classes I – VIII.

  • Eligibility criteria
Eligibility depends on which Paper you are interested in pursuing.

Paper 1 (Classes I – V) Eligibility:
    • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education
OR
    • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
    • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
OR
    • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education

Paper 2 (Classes VI – VIII) Eligibility:
    • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
OR
    • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed
OR
    • Graduation (in any stream) and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
OR
    • Graduation (in any stream) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed)

  • How to apply
Registration for the CBSE Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is done in 5 steps:
    • Complete the Online Application Form
    • Scan and upload images of your Photograph and Signature
    • Submit examination fee by Challan or Debit/Credit Card
    • Download and print Confirmation page and Address slip
    • After attaching required image mail the Confirmation page to CBSE office through Speed Post (no courier)
The message ‘Received’ will be posted online after receiving your Confirmation page through post.

  • Paper Pattern
 The CTET exam consists of objective type Multiple Choice Questions of 1 mark each. There is no negative marking.
 Paper 1:
    • Child Development and Pedagogy                        30 Marks
    • Language I                                                        30 Marks
    • Language II                                                        30 Marks
    • Mathematics                                                     30 Marks
    • Environmental Studies                                        30 Marks
      • Total 150 Multiple Choice Questions for 150 Marks
Paper 2:
    • Child Development and Pedagogy                        30 Marks
    • Language I                                                        30 Marks
    • Language II                                                        30 Marks
    • Mathematics and Science                                  60 Marks
(For Mathematics and Science teacher)
OR
    • Social Science                                                  60 Marks
(For Social Studies/Social Science teacher)
      • Total 150 Multiple Choice Questions for 150 Marks

    • Prepare from the latest Study Material
    • Practice sample papers
    • Record the time it takes in completing a sample paper and increase your speed
    • Revise thoroughly
    • Focus on understanding concepts
    • Study Pedagogy thoroughly as many questions are asked on Pedagogy

  • Important dates
    • Online Submission of Applications begins: 11th October 2013
    • Online Submission of Applications closes: 31st October 2013
    • Last day for Receipt of Confirmation Page at CBSE office: 7th November 2013
    • Admit Card available at Board Website: 9th January 2014
    • Date of Examination: 16th February 2014
      • Paper 1 timing: 2pm - 4:30pm
      • Paper 2 timing: 9:30am to 12 noon
    • Declaration of Results: 21st March 2014
    • Dispatch of CTET Marks Statement/Certificate: 21st April 2014 onwards
